Tips for your Senior Portraits and Location Photo Shoots
1 - GETTING READY - Allow ample time to get ready so you won’t be rushed and uptight, you want to look and feel your best.
Please arrive at the location 15 minutes before your photography appointment to allow time for you to get your outfits and
props unloaded and to discuss your sitting.

2 – WHAT’S ON YOUR MIND - Bring photos you like from magazines, books, catalogs, Internet, etc, to your session appointment.
We will use these images to form an idea of the photographic styles and "looks" that you like, and we will make portraits for you
that no one else has!  The more we know about what you want before the start of your session, the easier it will be for you to get
the kinds of pictures you like.

3 – HAIR & MAKE-UP - Wear your hair in your usual style, DON’T EXPERIMENT TODAY. Allow 3 days after a haircut for a more
natural look.
Girls - Apply makeup as if you were going out for the evening.  Too little and you’ll look pale and washed out; too much makes
you look “painted.”  Pay special attention to your eyes; that’s what everyone will see first in your portraits.  Bring your make-up with you
for touch-ups.
Guys - Be sure to shave within an hour or two of your appointment.  5 o’clock shadow CANNOT be removed.
Even if you don’t shave often, look in the mirror, if you can see hair or whiskers, you can be assured that the camera will pick it up.
Shave carefully, nicks and cuts are not good.

4 – CLOTHING & FAVORITE THINGS - Bring 1-2 changes of clothing that best reflect your personality.  Be sure that your clothes are
neat and pressed.  When selecting your outfits, keep in mind the number of clothing changes you’ll have per session.  And while
there are no “rules” about what to wear, here are a few suggestions on what to bring for each different session choice:
Outside - Outdoor portraits should be casual, and so should your outfits. This is the session for jeans, khakis, shorts, tanks
and tees.  The best colors outdoors are blues and earth tones (olive, green, tan, brown, etc.).  Whites and reds do not work well
outdoors.
Your Favorite Things - No rules here. Your favorite activity might actually be your outfit (sports or band uniform, t-shirt or
sweatshirt) or it might just accompany your outfit (like a rock band t-shirt with an electric guitar).  Try to coordinate your prop with
your outfit - it makes a great look!  If you’re bringing a vehicle, try to bring a shirt that matches the color of the car.  If your dog is gray,
bring a gray shirt.   We want these portraits to reflect YOU!!
You are encouraged to bring personal items that reflect the real you - hobbies, musical instruments, uniforms, sports equipment,
pets, cars, trucks, four-wheelers, etc.
DON’T FORGET YOUR CLASS RING!!!!!

5 - FRIENDS
– Bring a friend:
To Calm Your Nerves - Bring someone with you to ease the “camera jitters.”  Guests are invited to sit with you, help with clothing,
hair, etc.
To Be In The Picture - You can have your friends in your photos too!!  Just have them come along with you and we will include
them in some of your portraits.  If you’re bringing a friend, sibling or significant other, keep your outfits in the same tonal range.
That is, you both want to be in the same, rather than contrasting, colors.  That doesn’t mean that you have to have matching outfits.
But with two or more people in a photograph, similar colors tend to be less distracting to the eye.  Be sure to let us know if you are
bringing a friend when you make your appointment.

6 - EXTRA EFFORT - You’ll find that the small amount of time and effort that you invest in planning your Photo Shoot will mean
many, many years of enjoyment.  Please feel free to call us if you have any additional questions.  We want to make your portraits as
memorable as possible and we’ll be glad to help you in any way that we can.
