Newborn
  •  One of the  best times to photograph your baby is within the first 2 weeks when babies are still
very sleepy which helps during the photography session.  For those snuggled up and sound
asleep shots, the first seven days is best because they are very small and still curl up very
easily which makes for some wonderful photos

  •  Newborn photo shoots are "clothing optional":-)  Newborns photograph best in bare skin when
the wrinkles and folds of the skin can be seen.  You may bring some blankets, hats or other
items from home to personalize your portraits if you wish.

  • Mom & dad should bring long sleeve black shirts and mom should bring a solid color tank top.

  • Please feed your little one prior to making your way to your photo shoot.  A happy tummy will
result in baby falling into a deep sleep on the ride over.

  • For the ride over, leave the baby in a loose diaper and swaddled in a smooth blanket.  This way
there is less disturbance when we begin the shoot and we can avoid red marks and
indentations on the skin from diapers and tight clothing.    It is also a good idea to clean the
baby’s eyes with a warm wash cloth and to check baby’s nostrils for anything unsightly that you
don’t want photographed.  Please do this before leaving home… we don’t want to upset the
baby upon arriving for the photo shoot.  All this allows us to transition to the backdrops without
much disturbance (no pulling shirts over heads, etc.)  Please DO NOT wake your baby upon
    arriving

  • Newborns often have many “accidents” and I assure you that this is OK.  Everything washes
nicely.  Be sure to bring a change of clothing with you just in case the accident happens ON YOU

  • Please bring a plain white and  a plain black shirt as often times we will use mom/dad as a part of
our backdrop.  This will also allow us to capture some very emotional moments of bonding
between mom, dad & baby.  I do understand that some new parents do not want to be
photographed, however I encourage you to capture that bond between you & your new
addition.  We can work with various angles and lighting to hide any “baby belly”, etc.

  • Please refrain from bringing additional “helpers” to your photo shoot.  All we need is mom, dad
and baby.  Older siblings are welcome, however, we focus mainly on your new addition.

Please bring
  • Black/white shirts for mom & dad
  • Anything you like to personalize the photos, a blanket from Grandma, etc.
  • Diapers, wipes and burp clothes
  • Additional bottles, formula & pacifier (if used)
  • Change of clothes for baby to go home in
  • Change of clothes for mom & dad

Baby Portraits
Babies
  • Young babies photograph best in bare skin.  Until they have learned to sit unassisted, clothing
tends to bunch around the face and we lose the focus on baby’s expressions.  As baby learns to
sit, walk, etc, we begin to incorporate all of those cute little outfits we love so much.  However,
keep in mind the following guidelines when choosing clothing for your baby or toddler.

Clothes:

  • Bright colors are sometimes fun, but stay away from busy patterns such as plaids and large
    stripes

  • Any item with a large logo or character is distracting and takes away from the focus: the face

  • Stay clear of large collars and overalls for sitting babies.  They tend to bunch under the chin.
Overalls work ok for babies that are standing.

  • Hats are always a great accessory to add flair to your portraits

General Tips
  • Children should be well rested and not hungry.  A small snack and drink before a photo shoot
will usually top them off and make them content.  Sometimes we need to stop during a photo
shoot for a small snack break and we will make time to do that if needed.

  • Keep distractions to a minimum by bringing only those that are to be photographed with you.
The more people there are in the studio, the more likely your child will become overwhelmed.

  • Have your change of clothes ironed and ready to go.

  • Remember that your hands will be a focal point of some of the photos, so make sure that your
nails and jewelry are to your satisfaction.  (Dad's hands will be in the photos too)
